Questions

Frequently asked

Straight answers about garage door repair in San Diego. Still unsure? Ask us directly.

How old does a garage door have to be before the spring is a real risk?

Torsion springs are rated in cycles, not years, but a spring on a house built in the 1970s that's never been replaced is well past a normal service life. If you don't know the last time it was swapped and the house dates to that era, treat it as due.

Do you work on the older extension-spring setups from the 1960s?

Yes. A lot of the smaller single-car garages from that era still run extension springs on the side rather than a torsion bar overhead, and we carry parts for both systems.

Can you match the panel style on an original 1970s door?

Sometimes, but not always. Exact profile matches on doors that old aren't guaranteed to be available, and when they're not, replacing the section or the door is usually the straighter answer than a visible mismatch.

Does San Diego's climate cause different garage door problems than other places?

Less, generally. The mild temperate conditions here mean we don't see the freeze-thaw cracking in tracks and seals that shows up in colder climates. Most failures here trace to age and wear, not weather.
